I had my first encounter with light-weight software delivery methods during the late nineties as a developer on a team experimenting with RAD (Rapid Application Development) after living through the failures and inadequacies of traditional SDLC approaches. I encountered my first Scrum project in the spring of 2005, and it literally transformed my life both personally and professionally.
Since then, I’ve had the honor and privilege to serve organizations in the following industries:
- Federal, State, and Local Government
- Retail (Online and Brick & Mortar)
- Banking/Financial Services
- Marketing and Advertising
- Insurance
- Construction
- Manufacturing
- Nonprofits
- Digital Marketing
- Startups
- Data Analytics
- Education
Clients include: U.S. Government (DOD, DOT, DOJ), SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication), Phillips 66, Capital One, State Street Corporation, Anthem, Advance Auto Parts, Ferguson, Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA), Prison Fellowship, FamilyLife, and dozens of small to medium-size businesses worldwide.
With over 20 years in technology, software, and product development, I have trained and coached thousands of professionals. As a trainer, I am a certified “Training from the BACK of the room” instructor. This unique approach applies brain science and brain-friendly learning techniques which increase learning, retention, and recall. I weave these techniques throughout my classroom experience, ensuring a high-energy, interesting, and fun learning environment.
As a developer, project manager, and business owner, I have deep experience that I’m able to include throughout the class experience. Additionally, I have over a decade of experience as a Scrum Master, Product Owner, and Agile Coach, and I have lived what I am teaching. I have walked the path that my students are on, made the mistakes, and have years of learning and insights from those mistakes to share. I have worked on large global transformations and lived through the good, bad, and the ugly. So while we cover theory and concepts that are important to know and understand about Agile and Scrum, my deep experience enables me to deliver a relevant, impactful experience where learners walk away with fresh ideas and insights to apply immediately. My hands-on experience enables me to connect and establish immediate rapport and credibility with my learners.
In addition to being a Certified Scrum Trainer, I hold a number of other certifications: I am an authorized trainer in ICAgile certified trainer in Agile Facilitation (ICP-ATF), I am also a Certified Agile Coach (CAC/CTC), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Certified Scrum Professional – Scrum Master (CSP-SM), Certified Scrum Professional – Product Owner (CSPO), and Certified Agility Health Facilitator (AHF).
